SUstainability
At Santulan, we work hard to minimize our impact on the environment including the use of our natural bricks in construction, recycling grey water, harvesting rainwater, landscaping with drought-tolerant plants, gardening organic vegetables, composting, and using non-toxic cleaning and personal care products.
GREY WATER RECYCLING
We purify all the grey water coming from laundry, rooms and kitchen using an ozone machine and a pumping system with traps and native water plants. So all the water we take from our well, we give back to the earth for irrigation.
RAIN WATER RECYCLING
All the water from rains falling on our building roofs is collected in the various subterranean water tanks spread all over the property.
GREEN ROOFS
Our building floors are elevated to minimize impact on the ground and we made the top of the rooms a green terrace; this way, we give life back to nature by elevating the landscape and reduce energy costs. It’s a great spot to have some wine and enjoy the beautiful valley sunsets.
EARTH BRICKS
Let’s make a building with our own ground! We have used earth from our property to make all the bricks in the property. All the bricks were manually hand pressed and air dried for 21 days. It’s also a strategy to control the temperature inside the rooms and merge the look of the building with the natural environment.

FOG COLLECTION
Our water tank has a dual purpose. When it’s foggy, it condenses fog into water, which is recycled for irrigation. The entire structure was hand made by a local artist named Houston. There are 4 handmade bamboo cylindrical structures, vertically joined and covered with a mesh and then placed in position by a crane machine. In essence, it’s as a piece of art!
BIODEGRADABLE PRODUCTS
You will find biodegradable products in our laundry, bathrooms and kitchen. The plants don’t like contaminants in their food.
PLASTIC REDUCTION
From the day we embarked on this project, we have tried our best to reduce plastic usage. We love the ocean as much as you do.
ORGANIC GARDENS
When you enter Santulan, you enter a no-spray zone. Our vineyards, trees and vegetables are all grown organically without any pesticide use.
DROUGHT TOLERANT FLORA
If you look around, we have lots of cactus, succulents and native plants. Our endeavor is to let the flora feel at home.
TESLA STATION
The charger for Tesla will be able to charge your Tesla battery completely in 10 hours (for the Model S) to 10 ½ hours (for the Model X)
